Bugs etc plz to the Mindware forum: http://coldwar.mysteria.cz/viewforum.php?f=1

Fix for AMD64 users

Quote:
Ok,
got it running.
Here a little work around.
Extract the Archive:
Code:
sh ./coldwar_demo.run --keep

And then do following steps in the Console:
Code:

ln -s coldwar_demo/coldwar_demo/setup.data/bin/Linux/x86/glibc-2.1 coldwar_demo/coldwar_demo/setup.data/bin/Linux/x86/glibc-2.0
ln -s coldwar_demo/coldwar_demo/bin/Linux/x86/glibc-2.1 coldwar_demo/coldwar_demo/bin/Linux/x86/glibc-2.0

Then the Installer will work correct on amd64 Gentoo boxes.

This game seems to impress people, at least according to the comments on linuxgames.com.

An ebuild for this would be really nice.

I just played a little bit of the demo and the first thing I noticed was the lack of options for graphics. I have a 7800 GT, I want to be able to crank the settings up ;) After looking through the .coldwar_demo/config.txt the only thing I can change in there is the resolution. They should also take out the X-Fi ad in the demo since there are no X-Fi drivers for Linux heh.

An ebuild for the demo is available at the bug report.

The Gamespot review calls it a "Splinter Cell clone". Like Splinter Cell invented the stealth-em-up. I say Splinter Cell is a Thief clone! But it's not like either of those are available for Linux so the point is moot; Cold War wins for greater platform support. The release date is in June, I guess I'll be getting it for my birthday.

Did I mention I love stealth games?

Please keep in mind that the only way to play the linux version is to buy a Linux copy:

It is kinda a weird situation. As far as I understand it, the original developers released the linux demo, but their distributor wouldn't sell the linux version. Now a third party has bought the linux rights/version and will distribute it.

I belive that at least some point the problem was that the DRM(the infamous StarForce) didn't work in Linux.

I emerged the ebuild for the demo, but when I execute ``coldwar-demo'' I only get the following:
Code:
error: Current hardware is not supported by shader library

I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (RV300 I guess). Is this card not suited for the game? The problem isn't with the drivers. I am using the proprietary ATI drivers and ``glxinfo'' gives the correct output.

Does anybody have any idea what causes this error?

The problem was that I had some older ati-drivers installed. After I updated them the game starts, but as soon as the first level is loaded and I press enter I get an out of memory error.

This is a familiar issue apparently. If anybody else has this problem, he can find the solution here: http://coldwar.mysteria.cz/viewtopic.php?t=63
