Whenever I power on my PC the time is exacly what is was when I last powered of.

I've searched the forums but other threads deal with time jumping, not freezing

My /etc/conf.d/clock
Code:
# /etc/conf.d/clock

# Set CLOCK to "UTC" if your system clock is set to UTC (also known as
# Greenwich Mean Time).  If your clock is set to the local time, then
# set CLOCK to "local".

CLOCK="local"

# If you wish to pass any other arguments to hwclock during bootup,
# you may do so here.

CLOCK_OPTS=""

# If you want to set the Hardware Clock to the current System Time
# during shutdown, then say "yes" here.

CLOCK_SYSTOHC="yes"

I double-checked my /etc/localtime and it fits

hwclock gives me
Code:
kryshaol ~ # hwclock
Sat Sep 10 17:57:14 2005  -0.109723 seconds

And date gives me
Code:
kryshaol ~ # date
Sat Sep 10 17:58:11 CEST 2005

When I set the time i do a
Code:
date MMDDhhmmCCYY && hwclock --systohc

(as root)

I just don't get it
Cheers

Well, that is more like a workaround than a solution, but did you consider using ntp?

Might want to take a look here:

Yeah, but I prefer booting my system without internet connection, then connecting later (if need be) which kinda kills the idea.

If your system is 5+ years old, the clock battery is probably dead. Unless you got a bad battery with the system. If the battery is dead you will have to sync your time on the internet every time you boot. Depending on how old the system is, you may or may not be able to replace the battery.

It's not the battery either, I've had this issue before, (it disappeared, last time I reinstalled from scrath, so I have no idea what was wrong, except its software) and it appeared again recently when I had to adjsut my time for proper daylight savings

Instead of a symlink for /etc/localtime, try copying the actual file to /etc. If the directory (/usr for the actual file as it is now) is not mounted when the system starts the time process it can cause problems. I have no real idea either. If you do find a solution, please post it as this is one of those annoying problems that can drive you crazy.

Sorry about the absence, but I was a tad busy, anyway, no joy when I tried copying the localtime instead of linking.
This is driving me nuts

Deleting /etc/adjtime seems to have solved this same problem for yours truly...
