Hi all,
Just a thing I noticed of late, for some reason the gui version of bittorrent (I just run the basic bittorrent package) is considerably faster than the curses version. Why is this, and, of course, is there a way to get btdownloadcurses up to speed?

What do you exactly mean by 'btdownloadgui is faster then btdownloadcurses'? Does it load faster, or what?

Edit: Taking the forum you posted this thread in into account, I presume you mean that your download speed is greater with btdownloadgui than with -curses. However, I can't really tell why. From my point of view, it shouldn't really matter. Are you sure you have checked this in controlled environments? |

Hi, yes, you're right, i.e., it's download speed. It's the same exact computer, internet connection, etc., and btdownloadcurses is considerably slower. Not sure why, but...

When I download torrents using my server I get a different speed than when I use a gui. On mine it's because the gui talks to my router using uPNP to open 6881 and direct to the client. |

Would that effect the situation even if the router is plugged into the ethernet port. Anyway to deal with the problem?

Wouldn't matter what method you use to connect to the router. A solution is to set up port forwarding on your router. You'll see this on the bittorrent site. Default port is 6881 and you'd forward this to the IP of the machine you run bittorrent on. How to config port forwarding, sometimes called servers or services, depends on your router. |

Well, my ports are forwarded, so I doubt that's the trouble.

this is what I use to launch btlaunchmanycurses, btlaunchmanycurses.py ./ --minport 6000 --maxport 7000 --max_upload_rate 80. I dont think that it respects the settings that you set in the gui. I would recomend forwarding a bunch of ports, maybe not as many as me, I use this on a srever at school and download tons of stuff. Also, lower your max upload rate. Btlaunchmanycurses should be just as fast if not faster, ie no gui, and upnp slows it down a bit I believe. Also make sure that your ports are forwarded on your router to your box. |
