my system:
-piii 700/1000 @700MHz
-i810 Intel Corp. 82815 CGC [Chipset Graphics Controller] (rev 11)
-between 300 and 400 MB ram
tuxracer is too slow (2 fps)
is my HARDWARE too slow for tuxracer or is it a software problem
the console says :

direct rendering: Yes
so you think it's a software problem
i'll try to change my xorg config (i have an old configuration file)
->why previous xorg files had an xorg format and the actual ones an xfree format???
in order to be taken from knoppix???
also:
Code: | $ prboom
prboom v2.2.4 (http://prboom.sourceforge.net/)
Z_Init : Allocated 16256Kb zone memory
IdentifyVersion: IWAD not found
|
=>i'll search some docs about i810 and the memory (i look now in the bios)
no memory fix
=>making a new config file |

Not sure if I can even lend any solid info, or any help, but finding the DRM (Direct Rendering Manager) in your kernel, and disabling it, will allow your video driver to work alot better... I know someone else here can give you much better advice, but when I was getting my glxgears 3D test proggie to work at maximum capacity (it should work in the thousands FPS), I had to make sure I had DRM disabled, then used that update opengl ati or whatever the command was. Yes, I'm still a gentoo newbie, and I have the luxury of a Gentoo Guru to help me out. |

there was xfree
the drm were in the kernel
then came xorg
so the drm are now modules built against the kernel but theses modules aren't in the oficial sources |
