|

Hi ... rxvt, xterm and gnome-terminal all fail to start at the moment. Gnome-term opens a window but doesn't produce a prompt, so all I can do is close it again. Xterm appears & disapears really quickly giving the error
Code: | xterm: Error 32, errno 2: No such file or directory
Reason: get_pty: not enough ptys |
as does rxvt which gives the error
Code: | rxvt: can't open pseudo-tty
rxvt: aborting |
I have done 2 things recently that could (in my ever-so inexperienced opinion) cause the probem: -
which died due to a power failure, but I haven't rerun it yet, and I've started to use linux-2.5.68 ... I'm going to reboot into my old 2.4 kernel to see if that helps, but this is the first time I've used a beta kernel and I feel like I should pass this information on ... how do I do that ... and to whom ?? if it should turn out to be the kernel that is ... still if it is it would be a shame ... it really has made a noticable improvement to the responsiveness of my system ...
Thanks for any help advice and comments

I've rebooted into 2.4 & the gnome-terminal works ... so how do I get the 2.5 kernel working ?? cos I'd rather use that than the 2.4 one ... do I need to run MAKEDEV or something ??? and I guess this might be the wrong forum to post this in ... sorry ...
