I've just installed gentoo and I ran smack bang into the su problem discussed so frequently here ... but after a bit of pondering, I don't think I can do the whole "add user to wheel" thing, because my passwd/group come from NIS, and since wheel is gid 10 and I don't want to export gid's < 500 from my NIS server, the wheel thing just isn't going to do it.
Is there some way to remove the requirement of gentoo `su` that the invoker be a member of wheel? Or can someone give me a sufficiently good reason why there isn't a way?
At the moment I've just got "alias su='ssh root@localhost'" in my .bashrc, but obviously that is far less than ideal .... |
