Some simple questions about fbsplash

I'm using vesa-tng with 1024x768@60 in the kernel options, then, on lilo.conf file, I also have everything set for 1024x768 resolution.

a) What if I want to use another resolution? Do I have to change it in the kernel options and recompile? or can I just create a new initrd file and change the necessary values in the lilo.conf file?

b) My laptop native resolution is 1280x800. What are the necessary steps if I want to use this resolution? (I know that the current theme i'm using do not offer graphics for that resolution)
