To me MC doesn't seem to depend on any GNOME components...what happened exactly, did you just do an "emerge mc"? Even with the gnome flag set in USE, an emerge --pretend --emptytree mc just gives the following dependencies:
[ebuild N ] sys-apps/debianutils-1.16 to /
[ebuild N ] sys-apps/e2fsprogs-1.27 to /
[ebuild N ] dev-libs/glib-1.2.10-r4 to /
[ebuild N ] sys-devel/libtool-1.4.1-r6 to /
[ebuild N ] sys-devel/m4-1.4p to /
[ebuild N ] sys-devel/autoconf-2.52d-r1 to /
[ebuild N ] sys-devel/automake-1.5d-r2 to /
[ebuild N ] sys-libs/ncurses-5.2-r5 to /
[ebuild N ] sys-libs/zlib-1.1.4 to /
[ebuild N ] sys-devel/flex-2.5.4a-r4 to /
[ebuild R ] x11-base/xfree-4.2.0-r9 to /
[ebuild N ] gnome-extra/mc-4.5.55-r4 to / |

yep,
just emerge mc
i didn't even have X either, may that caused it. don't know.
anyway.
I managed to get rid of most of gnome by looking in the /var/db/pkg/gnome* dirs.
emerge unmerge broke KDE and X, but re emerging them fixed it all.
I love gentoo. with a little patience and creative thinking it all seems to work!
keep on doing what you developers are doing. it seems to be on the right track! many thanx from the netherlands. |
