I need to set the minimum password length to 4, and I've done this with pdbedit, but windows still complains that the password is too short. I know the policy is OK, as windows says you need to enter a password 4 characters or longer (which it is.)

So, I'm pretty sure it's the unix password length that's the problem. I've set "min passwd length" in the global section of smb.conf and it warns me it is deprecated (it does work though.)

What I can't find is the non-deprecated way to do this in the docs. Anyone have any ideas?

I would have a look at the log files. I forget but I think you might need to alter a registry entry to allow for short passwords.

I did look at the logs, and it said the password length was 5. It's a problem with unix password length enforcement. The logs don't say how to fix it unfortuately.

Adding the 'min passwd length' to smb.conf fixes it but it complains about being deprecated, and I can't find any docs that say how to do this without using the deprecated config var above.

As I said, it does work now with using the deprecated variable, but I can't find the solution to set this properly.
