Hi everyone,
I've been trying to install (and reinstall) Gentoo for the past week. I think i must have compiled (recompiled) the kernel over 10 times. I really do need some help here.
I'm running the 2.6.14-gentoo-r5 kernel (installed only earlier) and i did an emerge ipw2100. when i did a "modprobe ipw2100" i got the following error msg:
"Error inserting ipw2100 (/lib/modules/2.6.14-gentoo-r5/net/wireless/ipw2100.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)"
does anyone know where i've gone wrong? i'm sure i must have done something wrong...i really do need help..sigh...thanks everyone... =)

Hi,
Please post the output of dmesg (last few lines) right after this error occurs. Did you emerge ipw2100 after you compiled and booted using the new kernel? I hope /usr/src/linux points to the correct location.
Also I hope you have already seen this WiKi http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_ipw2100
cheers,

Hi,
Thanks for the quick response. That was the article i followed while performing my ipw2100 installation. Didn't expect such a messy situation =)
Here's the dmesg output regarding the module load error:
"kobject_register failed for ieee80211 (-17)
[<c0213df9>] kobject_register+0x49/0x80
[<c0139295>] mod_sysfs_setup+0x55/0xb0
[<c013946f>] load_module+0x87f/0xb30
[<c01397bb>] sys_init_module+0x6b/0x190
[<c0103135>] syscall_call+0x7/0xb
ipw2100: Unknown symbol ieee80211_wx_get_encodeext
ipw2100: Unknown symbol ieee80211_wx_get_encodeext
Thanks so much for the help! |
