This is the output:
randau admin # /etc/init.d/alsasound restart
* WARNING: you are stopping a boot service.
* Storing ALSA Mixer Levels ... [ ok ]
* Unloading ALSA ... [ ok ]
* Unloading ALSA modules ... [ !! ]
As far as I'm concerned it shouldn't look like this. It says nowhere that the ALSA modules are reloaded.
Thanks

Do you have the "Unload Modules" option compiled in the kernel? _________________ gentoo.ro |

do you have alsa stuff as modules or compiled in. I had a problem similar to this so make everything a module if you want to use alsasound. |

How do I check if I have it as modules or compiled in? |

cd /usr/src/linux
make menuconfig (as root)
then look for sound stuff and it it has an asterik it is "enabled-compiled in" if it has an M then it is a module
or you could: lsmod or modprobe -l and see if sound stuff is listed, if it is then it is module. I would go kernel way, btw, in my opinion you should always configure kernel yourself and learn how to do this, quite frankly it is really easy and more predictable then genkernel it that's what you used. Knowing the kernel inside and out is your friend and can solve many many many problems. |

Hehe, yes I configured my kernel manually and ofcourse it's a module now that I think of it.
Now to the problem -- Why can't I run /etc/init.d/alsasound restart successfully? I have static sound and alsaconf has been run without problem. I have no sound when testing the sound in Control Center and no sound in any of my programs. During boot "snd-seq" and other things like that fails to load so that I get those red !!
Thanks,
Martin |

Yes, I have done that.
I have had a perfectly working alsa sound system until yesterday. As far as I know I didn't touch the sound settings. All I did was adding /sbin/reboot and /sbin/halt permissions to all users. Maybe I did something to the other permissions as well? How do I check that?
