When i booted up in the live cd, the internet connection just worked. However after i finished with the base install (i installed the dhcp client) i didn't get any interent connection. Gentoo didn't even recognize that there was a eth0! So i went back into the live cd and looked at my kernel configuration (i had used genkernel (works great)). Realtek was configured already being used. After a little digging i found out that the live cd had a module 8139too that i needed to put. Once i added that it worked flawlessly, but also some may need to add the mii module (this is in nano -w autoload.d/modules (something like that)) if 8139too doesn't add it in by itself |

The following steps should take care of your RealTek problem at next reboot (and hereafter)...
THis is something that is best done by adding a line to your /etc/modules.d/aliases file.
Then perform
# modules-update _________________ Clusters of Fry's Special, AMD 2200, 2 GB DDR, 220 GB (2008.1/desktop, stage 1, -O3) x8
HP Compaq Fry's SPecial, AMD 2100, 2 GB DDR, 260 GB (2008.0/server, stage 1, -O3)
Ultra Sparc 5, 256MB, 3GB (2006.1/server, stage 1, -O3) |
