Not sure, but it looks like it could be an issue with motherboard chipset drivers in the kernel?

I have the same problem, but with previous versions of the driver (for instance, the portage default one) I have no problems. I have read just about any howto for ati and tried both the exact same and other configurations. On the older drivers I also get good fps at ut2004. Tried following http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_ATI_Drivers but it did not helped.

Untill there is a patch just use the portage one, and please post any progress :).

I will not post my whole log files, since they are all ok, except for that same error and this one in the end of Xorg.0.log (do you have the same?)

Code:
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Mouse1" (type: MOUSE)
(II) Mouse1: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local/, removing from list!
AUDIT: Mon Dec 26 00:41:30 2005: 8068 X: client 4 rejected from local host
(II) fglrx(0): [drm] removed 1 reserved context for kernel
(II) fglrx(0): [drm] unmapping 8192 bytes of SAREA 0xe0b3c000 at 0xb7a55000

As for the working configuration with the older driver this is how it ends
Code:
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Mouse1" (type: MOUSE)
(II) Mouse1: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local/, removing from list!

I believe that the masked driver works for you and many people. The thing is the unmasked driver works for me, and for some reason, the masked driver doesn't. Unless you did some special procedure you can share, that doesn't really help.. but thanks for posting.

By the way, Salem, try to use the via_agp kernel module (activate in the kernel in Devices ... Character devices) as in http://odin.prohosting.com/wedge01/gentoo-radeon-faq.html

and don't forget to change the config in your xorg.conf for use the externalagp. And post more info on your hardware and configuration (xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log, etc) so we can have a look ;)

Can somebody help me then? please! I need to update my drivers to get WoW and other games working properly, otherwise I'll just post a bug and I'll have to delete linux for windows...

I have a HP notebook with Mobility 9200 AGP (IGP), and like I said it works with the default portage drivers (8.14.13) but not with the more recent ones, using the same configurations. Tried also to delete the tv signal, changing screen frequencies, etc.. I posted the only errors I get above (I have agpgart, intel_agp and ati_agp as modules in the kernel, but I don't load them, and also when I do to try the externalagpgart I also get a black screen)... :x

Blank screen sounds familiar... I was getting that problem with drivers > 8.14.13 until I read about the bug here: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=103028.

Quote:

Blank screen or monitor turning off after startx

Versions of ati-drivers >= 8.16.20 have an issue with this that's easily corrected by inserting:
File: xorg.conf

Option "ForceMonitors" "notv"

in the device section of xorg.conf (discussed here: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=103028)

So try notv.

Also, make sure you are re-running fglrxconfig to get a new xorg.conf after upgrading your driver.

Hope this helps,

Erlend

Thanks for posting. I did tried all that before, it is also described in the ati wiki now. The error remains :S It also makes sense that it remains, the problem I'm having is with loading the fglrx_agp. Anyway, I'm updating my gcc and the whole system with new flags (had pentium4, should have pentium-m), and I'm removing all agpmodules of my kernel. For those interested, if I forget remind me of posting results!

lol, you're still using the new driver, which i can't load myself... as i said, only the 8.14.13-r3 works for me, with internalagp (not the other). Besides, I just learned that it is required that u must have via_agp as module (duh, as well as agpgart), it's not an option, so look for your error elsewhere.

So you're saying that u can load X but when u ask for info it hangs up? where u able to enter x before? I'm not going to bother to read your xorg.conf, check the wiki and forums about that first, just don't trust in autogenerated things, use fedora for that

Did you do "make clean" before you recompiled your kernel, and did u had nvidia or other cards before? Mind you, you no longer have the
Code:
Dec 23 07:29:14 keiko [fglrx] Failed to load fglrx_agp module
Dec 23 07:29:14 keiko [fglrx] Error code  256
Dec 23 07:29:14 keiko [fglrx] Failed to load ATI module agpgart

This is important for me, could you load X when you had that?

Ok, if you post your Xorg.0.log and all your specs and previous configs/cards, I promise to read everything. Let's hope someone more experienced shows up too
