Emerge, after installing, should be able to remove dependencies if they arent't dependant anymoe.
Also, there should be a way so that people could upload contrib packages and have an internal rating system that goes along the lines of x/y many people have successfully installed this package, and if x/y < .75 then prompt, else try it.
One more thing: Emerge should be able to handle .src.rpms as well as straight code...
Make these changes and I GUARANTEE Gentoo will be awesome!
As it stands now, it is good, but it's not a distro for everyday use, it's more like a hobby than a distro
Thanks, and I sincerely hope you make these changes!
PS: Your registration system pissed me off :/[/b] |

If you work on your attitude harder and improvement it, you might get the better results from the Gentoo folks and developers. |

fuckregistering wrote: | PS: Your registration system pissed me off :/[/b] | Sorry to hear that. I think it is about as easy as they can be.
One reason we started to require registration is that non-registered users are identified as "guest". When there are multiple "guests" posting to the same thread, it can be very difficult to keep track of who is who.
You can read the discussion that was involved when we were considering the requirement over here. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Now why would anyone want to use rpm's??? There are already ebuilds for sooo many apps - and if you miss one - make an ebuild - its really easy.

*wonders what it is that he's been using every day for the past year since it obviously can't be Gentoo* |

WOW... I thought I had attitude problems, this guys has been beat by miles....
1) emerge depclean
2) The Gentoo stable project does this
3) We can, there's a way to convert src.rpm to tarballs - look at the redhat based ebuilds (some artwork crap I think it is) - it does this.
4) take your valium. |

I've read about this folks. I suspected it was an urban myth... Could this person be suffering from rpm withdrawl syndrome? _________________ Screenshot |

Doesn't look like Mr. Eloquence will be returning, so I think we can call this done.
Nothing to see here. Move along. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |
