Patched cleanly, compiled cleanly, boots clean, and seems to be running just fine so far. Thank you so much! Could you try to keep this patch in further releases as well please? At least until they decide to re-add it to vanilla. Thanks again! |
Sure, i will keep it only here for a moment until we are sure it won't make any trouble.
cheers

well the deep fsck found four i_blocks is value xx, should be value xx and fixed all. but still the same problem at boot. thats the actually message:
Code: | *Checking all filesystems ...
/dev/sda4 is mounted. e2fsck: cannot continue, aborting.
/dev/sda1: clean, 38/16064 files, 7166/64228 blocks
*Fsck could not correct all errors, manual repair needed
give root password for maintenance (or type Control+D to continue): |
the sda1 is /boot ext2 and sda4 /home ext3.
that mean /dev/sda4 is already mounted and cannot check filesystem or? i tryed in kernel config both Kernel automounter support and Kernel
automounter version 4 support (also supports V3) if this affect filesystem mounts?
i dont have enought knowledge to remove single patches on kernel tree -mm's so i figure something on my own... and
now i have in fstab that it doesnt automatically checks anything on /dev/sda4 (dump/pass 0 0) and its boot the system. |

Thank for the nitro update always nice!
Quick question, is alsa in the kernel updated to 1.0.11rc2 at all? as I need it for my Audigy in my powerbook?
Its wierd, but updated mainline kernel with latest git alsa update and it still says its at 1.0.10rc3, so I wasn't sure if nitro had been updated, as it says 1.0.10rc3 when the machine boots
Thanks for any clues _________________ Tyan Tiger K8W, 2xOpteron 240,Powerbook5,6 15" 1.5g, Macbook Black 2g, Mac Mini 1g, Ipod P60g.

AFAIK branding only gets bumped when an official release is being made, which doesn't apply to git updates.
I would appreciate if you simply test if it works, because i'm not so willing anymore to throw new git code to the users,
as now we aim to stabilize the release series.
PS: wait for nitro3, should be out within next hour or two
EDIT: well, we have git-alsa that proved itself in latest suse kotd kernel, so i assume it should suit you just fine _________________ Retired gentoo user |

ok I did it and it works: Code: |
hdaps: IBM ThinkPad T43 detected.
hdaps: initial latch check good (0x01).
hdaps: device successfully initialized.
input: hdaps as /class/input/input3
hdaps: driver successfully loaded.
|
So will you exclude the patch from new nitro?
BTW: You're a damn machine
Thanks a lot for the patches and your great support here! _________________ Workstation: 5.1 SurroundSound, LIRC remote control; Laptop [IBM-T43]: patched sources, s2disk/ram, fingerprint sensor |

something else:
Does anyone know why that does not work any longer?
Code: | hdc=noprobe libata.atapi_enabled=1 |
I could force my dvd to be used as an sata drive, and had dma on it. This does no longer work, I now have no dvd at all when I'm using this option.

Only in nitro3? Because now with nitro2 it does not work... or are the option incorrect?
BTW: When I'm using "normal" ide driver and want to play a dvd I get:
Code: | end_request: I/O error, dev hdc, sector 14494840
hdc: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hdc: command error: error=0x50 { LastFailedSense=0x05 }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
|
thousend times
And dma is not working at all

And again something else: There are those sata fixes for using pm/standby; But it does not work here, when I resume my screen is garbled and the led for the hdd does not stop lightening, so I think the problem is not solved. Using it on a T43 here with an intel ich6 chipset. (sata)
BTW: Whats the correct command to test the normal standby? Or shall I try it with suspend2-ram?

hmm, you are telling it muuuuuuuch too late, as nitro3 was as good as ready....
ARGH!!!!
looks like a change in libata code, I'll look into it.
This is a showstopper, taking nitro3 down from mirror, sorry :S _________________ Retired gentoo user |

OOps I'm sorry!
I (we ) would be damn happy if you can fix that issue!
Good luck, and tell me if you need some information or testing!

hmm, i __THINK__ that both will be fixed within next , say, 20 minutes, then i can start testing again and, if successful, release....
cheers

I'd like to know how do you benchmark the performance gain on your systems, and which type of gain are we talking about.
I know glxgears is good to measure 3d acceleration( with nitro-sources i get 30%+ at least ) and somebody told me about acovea, but I dont think nitro-sources influences the type of thing acovea is meant for bechmarking.
So, I'd like to test my overall system performance with diferent kernels and see which configuration is better for me, which I/O Scheduler and a couple other things.
Does anyone know how may I do that the easy way???? |
No, no. Glxgears should only be used to test if DRI is functional and running. It should in no way be used as a benchmarking app. Instead you should try a game like Quake 4, Doom 3 or UT2004 and use a benchmark map. |
Ok, but will these games test just my graphics? How do I test the average performance of the others machine resources? |

Just checked, and it seems my little Suspend2 problem is caused by my CPU arch.
I use x86_64 and I can't compile it.
Am I right that it's i386 only?
If so, Is there a patch or something to make it x86_64 compatible?
Thank you. _________________ d|>_<|b |

hmm anyone can tell me how I can disable frambuffer at all with a kernel option? nofb does not work.
I'll try if the suspend won't fail without it.
How do you standby? What command? Code: | echo 3 > /proc/acpi/sleep
|
Is that correct? _________________ Workstation: 5.1 SurroundSound, LIRC remote control; Laptop [IBM-T43]: patched sources, s2disk/ram, fingerprint sensor |

do
Code: | cat /sys/power/state |
to see possible states, then do a
Code: | echo "standby" > /sys/power/state |
where standby is either "standby","mem" or "disk"... |
