So after having successfully isntalled gentoo on my server, my laptop and my desktop as dual boot several times, i finally decided to take the leap and switch completely to a gentoo only desktop, only thing i had to give up was counter-strike (didnt play much anyhow). I love it and so far everything is goin great the only thing i couldnt get to work was my raid array ended up spliting it back to 2 seperate drives. But here i am and hopefully im here to stay |

you can still play counter strike if you install 3D drivers and wine/cedega (Windows-on-Linux).
You can then run CS, just as if you're on windows and join windows games etc.
Works like a charm here

I can't get 100 FPS. I used to play with 25. You do not need 100, your monitor is not able to display 100. |

indeed, anything over 60/70 (depends on your monitor refresh) is not going to do anything.
Infact, you should probably limit your framerate to your monitor refresh anyway (Vertical sync, prevents nasty tearing effects).
I am running CS at a steady 70Fps on my IBM T42 with an Radeon 9600 . _________________ "Man fears the darkness, and so he scrapes away at the edges of it with fire."

A troll? You know, your TV has only 25fps or less. I would take everything over 40 as playable. |

True true i know the human eye can only see 24-27fps boohoo i like CS to run at 100 and i can tell the difference b/w 90-100 so 40 is horrid, i cna deal with 60 after a few months of adjusting, i recently installed steam under cedega and it still doesnt run any better. |

I've just been playing CS the whole afternoon. I played on a pII, 350 Mhz, windows 98se, with an ATi Graphics Pro Turbo. That means NO 3D acceleration. It ran in 512x384 in software rendering. It had black bands all around the screen. It ran with ~17Fps.
I had a great afternoon, and that's with all that. Back in the day (I love that phrase) NOBODY had 60fps, and certainly nobody had 100fps. So if you're concerned about your 'gaming experience' then here's some news: The game was _never designed_ to run at 60+ fps, it's just an extra added bonus. It is perfectly playable at almost any framerate on any platform. _________________ "Man fears the darkness, and so he scrapes away at the edges of it with fire."
