Finally i got the server running but only with the "nv" driver.
I use nvidia geforce 4 4200 Ti with AGP8X, i donwload the latest nvidia drivers but still working with nv.
The glxinfo | grep direct shows me "direct rendering : NO"
Is there something with the new nvidia drivers ?

Which nvidia drivers did you emerge? i.e. x86 or ~x86?
Have you ever had X working before with the nvidia drivers? _________________ The success of Linux is based on the failure[s] of Windows |

First, i tried simple emerging the drivers and then i also tried the latest masked drivers 8178 (something like that).
Now i opengl-update nvidia and set "nvidia" at xorg.conf and i can't get it running.
At the past i had nvidia and direct render working fine, i haven't changed the installation procedure, it just didn't work this time.

Does the x log show anything interesting? /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Does the nvidia module load okay at boot? _________________ The success of Linux is based on the failure[s] of Windows |

try using eselect. I think the syntax is "eselect opengl nvidia" but I'm not sure. |

U know after trying everything ( eselect is not recognized command ) i had the very smart idea to downgrade my nvidia driver, after that i could not even
load the nvidia module.
I have to opengl-update xorg-x11 and set the driver to "nv" to load kde.
So no nvidia module at start up ( not sure if this is caused by downgrading, or multi-editing the kernel).
As for the xorg.0.log file i will display it to u 2morrow cause now it seems fine with the old configuration.
Than u guys _________________ wanna react ? |

Correction: the command should be eselect-opengl, not eselect. I think there's a message about it near the end of emerging the latest drivers. |

Hey there i had no results i recompiled kernel kernel so many times that i can't find any other options to enable / disable as modules / build in.
So if i and i face the known error message, ... file format etc...
Are there any other options ?
I'm ready to test anything plz any kind of response is welcome.

Try looking through /var/log/Xorg.0.log for errors. Lines containing error messages will contain (EE) at or near the beginning. If you don't find any, try looking for warnings, which will contain (WW). |

might want to check and make sure you have the /dev entries created for nvidia:
see my post here for correct way of setting up nvidia devices using any version after 1.0-6629
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-430911-start-27.html
Also, my glxinfo shows direct rendering: Yes
using masked nvidia 8178 _________________ tSp

My /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
Code: | (WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/CID/" does not exist.
(WW) Open APM failed (/dev/apm_bios) (No such file or directory)
(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found) |
I'm working on GLX, now, any suggestion on that ? _________________ wanna react ? |

Hello there created a user:l33t. Yesterday i switched to l33t then and i startx
[img=http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/2182/snapshot13mb.th.png]
As you see as l33t i can get glx running, as root i can't.
What could be wrong. I'm sure i made a mistake. _________________ wanna react ? |

hi,
edit rc.conf and set the following parameters,
Code: |
#nano -w /etc/rc.conf
DISPLAYMANAGER="xdm"
XSESSION="Gnome"
|
now try to #startx on root and not on your user id.

Hi, the solution came after compiling inkernel as modules the I2C support .
Did that after a dmesg error. _________________ wanna react ? |
