Hi
I have a x300 and my system freezes, too. But my older Laptop with a 9600 works fine. Perhaps it has also something to do with pci-express . |

Hi guys, I used the latest overlay, but can't seem to get glxcommgr to work. It spits out:
Code: | glxcompmgr: GLX_MESA_render_texture is missing
glxcompmgr: Failed to manage screen: 0
glxcompmgr: No managable screens found on display :2.0 |
I'm using nvidia. Falling that I tried compiz and that works great (without gconf):
Code: | LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ compiz --replace decoration wobbly fade minimize cube rotate zoom scale move resize place & |
So I thought I will use compiz as the window manager for xfce4, but I need gnome-window-decorations. Any one know which package that is part of? I already tried emerging metacity, but no luck. |

What is the difference between xglxcompmgr and glxcompmgr?
I read some where on here that someone has xglxcompmgr working....is there an ebuild for it? _________________ Regards,

Everything seems to work for me, however, when I start anything (gnome-terminal, gedit, serpentine, gaim, doesn't matter) the window border is drawn okay, but the top of the window is "out of the screen", the window is moved "in the top of the screen". How can i move them down? ALT+LEFT_MOUSE doesn't work, cause that moves my Xgl window...
Edit: Already found out, CTRL+ALT+LEFT_MOUSE allows me to move the window down so I can see the titlebar. |

When I start Xgl from the console, without any X server running, it start just fine. However when I try to start compiz or any program to load in Xgl it doesn't show up and I do specify DISPLAY=:0
What's wrong?

It's part of compiz (but it is called gnome-window-decorator) |

Hi all! I'm just trying out the new xgl overlay from http://www.gentoo.org/~hanno and it works fine here with kde, if you don't mind some funky display behavior and you can live without window decorations, that is. However, it seems that compiz has been moved in cvs recently, so in order to download the current source, make sure to change the location in the ebuild:
Code: |
ECVS_SERVER="cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xorg"
ECVS_MODULE="app/compiz"
|
Also you might want to add x11-libs/startup-notification to DEPEND. |

I tried re emerging compiz with all use flags enabled, but still no gnome-window-decorator |

Either way I do it, using /usr/lib/opengl/ati/lib or /usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ compiz won't run due to "No Managable screens found on dislpay :1.0" Why is this? glxcompmgr works...
edit: Wow, do I feel dumb, glxcompmgr was loaded when I tried to use compiz
Now I am getting this:
Code: | compiz: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing |
is this because of Mesa? |

This is because you don't have LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ |

I've solved my ugly drawing problem (see http://blog.m00re.de/fileadmin/_temp_/xgl-screenshot.jpg). It was caused due to starting gnome-session before compiz and gnome-window-decorator. I now use a little script to start XGL and Gnome:
Code: | Xgl -ac -accel xv:pbuffer -accel glx:pbuffer &
DISPLAY=:0 compiz --replace gconf decoration wobbly fade minimize cube rotate zoom scale move resize place menu &
DISPLAY=:0 gnome-window-decorator &
DISPLAY=:0 gnome-session |
It's fast enough to work with, but text and images sometimes get replaced by white-and-black horizontal lines when moving the mouse over it. But I guess this is a driver problem.

for the fun, a patch to enable switcher plugin in compiz:

Not sure who zack is, but he's started work on the KDE side of compiz, and just over an hour submitted some preliminary code that doesn't seem to do anything yet. |

Do you emerged the mesa-6.4.3 from my overlay ?
this version "should" have this one enabled
Btw, I advice everyone to use hanno latest overlay... I just made mine to have something easier to use but I don't plan to support it

I'm following Rayno's steps (Posted: Wed Feb 08, 2006 2:27 pm) with the overlay from pijalu (Posted: Thu Feb 09, 2006 12:04 pm).
After I editted the patches I ran "emerge xgl", but that failed because of a missing /usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/libGL.la

What's gone wrong? I'd really like to check out that neat cube etc.
Thanks

Doh! I'm too excited for this ... forgot to ebuild xgl-20060209.ebuild before emerging.... (don't know yet if that solves the problem) AND forgot to sacrafice the goat |

The newest sed revision do not work. So you're eselect opengl switch failed and so you had no libGL etc.
Just mask the the sed revision and rebuild sed. |

Not exactly, sed is in /bin (now?) , so you have to edit "/usr/share/eselect/libs/core.bash", line 115...or link it to /usr/bin again _________________ Gentoo 17.1 x86_64

Man, I usually have a major Gnome/KDE flamewar going on inside my head. I was starting to lean more towards KDE with KDE4 coming (eventually) and Koffice 2 (eventually), but now this had to come out.
Anyway, compiz also depends on startup-notification. Might want to add that to the ebuild for completeness' sake. _________________ We need an airstrike! |
