Ouch! I finally got that third slow box up, and from the look of things, I don't think it would even finish a tiny unit in 7 days. It's been crunching on a default size work unit for 3 days and its only 4.7% done. I think there must be some kind of hardware problem, because it shouldn't be THAT slow. It's a Pentium 2 266, but I have a Pentium 2 400 that does a little better than 1 default unit a day. |

Try playing with the resource allocation, I know for AMD cpus its recommended to use the 1 option as opposed the the 2 option, could be worth a try on your clunker.
I'd set my p 180 up to do zetagrid but I think the work units would be reallocated before they could be returned.
We are rapidly approaching 3rd place, but we're going to have a hell of a time to make it into second because we would need to do as much work as we have already done all over again to get there. But anything is possible. 3rd place is damn good even though i hope we go even further.

My pentium I 166 takes ~1.5 days for a default (medium size) work unit, my pentium I 200 takes ~25-27hrs. I haven't setup my pentiumII boxes yet.

If it hasn't already been posted there, it would be cool if this appeared in next week's (or the week after's) GWN. I would be willing to write something about it in a couple weeks when this semester's graduate exams are over. Otherwise, some one else can.
Even if this has been posted there, talking about it again couldn't hurt. I think there is a good chance Gentoo could get some financing for this. It would also bring support for the project if we win. |

Well, now I know why my CPU has been idle for the past month or so.... I forgot to reinstall Zetagrid..
I'm now back in the saddle, and looking at the statistics I'm very impressed, we produce around twice as many zeros a day as any other contributor.. and we hold first place in the team rating by a HUGE margin. |

We're soooo close to 3rd place now. I think bumping this thread has gotten us rolling again, noone can even come close to the Gentoo team when we're operating on all cylinders

I had just checked, and ..
WE ARE NUMBER 3 NOW!!!
NUMBER 1 IN LAST 24 HRS, & LAST 7 DAYS.
I found a typo in one fo my zeta.cfg's so it wasn't adding to the total.
Feixed now. _________________ Brian

Yes, we are number 3! How about a change to the subject title? I suppose there is a lot of time for that, because as has been previously noted, we're only about halfway to the output we'll need for number 2. Time to really buckle down and keep the collective humming!

Add one 2Ghz Pentium 4 to the list.
I put zeta on my default runlevel so it should be cranking out zeros for the better part of the day.

heh...add a PIII-1GHz (not much but it's gotta help somehow right?) to the list.
We are Michael Imhof!
Also added to default runlevel.
EDIT: still waiting to complete my first unit...but I just checked...(I didn't check all 15 pages of forum.. I have papers due)...GLUE as a team is Number 1...w00! http://www.zetagrid.net/servlet/service/teams |

The results are looking promising.
Even though we are behind, we are the fastest produces (i.e. we make the most in 24 hrs and 7 days) which means, if this trend continues, we will make it to first place, albeit a bit slowly.
We produced 125 units in the last 24 hrs, whereas the person above us produces 51. We are doing over twice as much as him, so we will overtake him eventually |

But then again, we have to double what we've done to get to 2nd, then double that again to get to first |

I'll join the collective tonight when I get home. I'd skipped this topic before because I didn't know what it was. Thanks to the GWN now I know. Lead on Michael Imhof!

There was a huge jump in the workload today between 7 and 10 (I assume this is GMT?)... I'm guessing this is around the point where the GWN came out? |

Whoa! Over 100 computers used in the last 24 hours. Couple of days ago we only had around 40. This is really starting to look good. _________________ [size=9]We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. |
