|

Hello
I try to learn more about gentoo. sofar i can install a system, x and get a working desktop. I hav used 1/3 (Bob.p) to install gentoo on a P11 128 in ram, amd athlon-xp 2400 allso installed on harddrivs that i hav mowed in to ather workstations.
Now i play on a amd 64 athlon and try to learn how to get the moste out of my hardwear. So i use Conrad install giud to get my system up on reiser4 and gcc 4.0.3.2.
I use RR64 dvd so i hav internet up, so i can copy and past. The RR64 find all my hardwear. and i think it is a gentoo 2.6.14 with patchis for reiser4.
So can i folow Conrads guid, download no-sourses and use the genkernel.
I know RR64 is not sup.here but i like to know about genkernel.
This i can not find. Will genkernel and gcc 4.0.3.2 work
Thanks
Bertil

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Kernel & Hardware.
emerge genkernel and read the documentation. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

I have no idea about genkernel since I don't use it, but I do use gcc-4.0.2-r3 , and it has no problem compiling every package on my machine (including manually configured kernels). |

Hello cyrillic
And one more time, thanks for anser.
So i hav dma on, withe drive you told me to use.
After that i spend long time to get my soundcard to work.
i allso tryd to put a new one in.(soundblaster 16) hav used this before in gentoo.
But no go. I will use no-sources-2.6.15-r3 with or without genkernel.
Mybe i shod just M all the dives in pci under alsa.
This is the reson for trying the genkernel this time. Im not lasy, i just cant get the sis 7012 to work. i hav allso tryed to set USE= and alsa drive but no luck.

SiS 7012 uses the Intel driver
Code: | Device Drivers --->
Sound --->
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture --->
PCI devices --->
<M> Intel/SiS/nVidia/AMD/ALi AC97 Controller |
2 of my motherboards have this onboard soundcard. |

Hello
If i folow the alsa howto on 32 bit using intel drive for my sis 7012 i hav a working sound. (kernel 2.6.15 r1)
and if i do exectly the same on 64 bit, no sound. but if i use rr64 (kernel 2.6.14 no3) sound is ok.
So no sound on kernel 2.6.15 r4 and newer.
