Hi, I was wondering if anybody could tell me where to find a program that will give me a network usage graph similar to the CPU & graph in the gnome-system-monitor.

Hey, just wanted to give a shout out to a fellow Gentoo user who lives in Lubbock.
I've lived here for quite some time and hope to get out of here soon!!!

I've not used Gnome in a while but from what I remember there is a network monitor for the Gnome toolbar. Shouldn't be to hard to find. You could also use something like gdesklets or gkrellm. Gkrellm is my favorite computer monitoring tool as it is very small and has MASS customization with little effort.

A more advanced option that I now use is RRD Tool with Cacti frontend to monitor all my computers network usage and overall network usage in very nice looking Graphs that are accessable via http.
However, this is quite a bit more complicated and probably an overkill for what your looking for.

well, howdy yerself :)

small interweb, ain't it?

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna try gkrellm. the gnome system tray network tool is crap. I'm thinking about going back to another wm again myself. what do you use? Last time, I used xfce. I'd like to try fvwm, but I'm not quite brave enough.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but jnettop gives a very useful screen of output, similar to top.

It's CLI-based, so I can run it over ssh on remote servers. Useful to see how much bandwidth tor is taking cf Apache!

I'm glad you found my post helpfull. As far as what window manager I use. I use Fluxbox on my laptop and love it as it is very very small but allows for MASS customization without a lot of effort.
However, I hear icebox and xfce are very similar.
