Hi,
I'm searching for a micro PC to replace an old Powermac in my home.
It is used as :
- router
- webserver
- firewall
- files server (NFS / samba)
- mail server
- web access point for visitors or my wife
- ...
I don't need a very fast computer, but I want a very small computer. My PowerMac G3 is too big, and make too much noise in my living room. I'm looking for micro ATX or smaller...
I need a configuration with :
- ATA and SATA (at least one of each, 2 is better)
- 2x USB
- 1x DVI (I have only DVI display)
- 2x LAN (2x Gigabyte is better - or eventually 100MB - )
- graphics chip on board (like GMA 900) (I don't need a fast chip)
eventually :
- 1x firewire (for extern harddisk)
- 2 PCI (ne need for PCI Express)
For porcessor I don't know what to take. VIA (I can't find it in shops near me)? Intel Mobile? AMD? Intel P4/Celeron?
The 3 important things is : low low noise, very small case, linux or BSD 100% compatible hardware (no headache ). My budget is less than a Mac Mini ... (about 500) but if I could spend less money I would be happy .
I live in a Mac world ... and I'm a bit lost in the PC "lot of choice" world . Could you give me a direction to take?

I lookt in fact on micro ATX motherboard. They all have between 2 and 6 ata and sata connectors.
The size of the final box is not an very important thing.
Thx for the links, I'll search on it. |
