I saw a reference to SUBJ tool on linux.hotplug.devel, and tracked it down to:

that thread is quite old. Kay is now the maintainer and (if I remember correctly) the same functionality can be achieved much easier now.

i wasnt suggesting you use git, just that you look at the url, which contains some simple loops to simluate coldplug.
