Do the fonts not show up when you use the text tool? Perhaps you have the fonts configured using Xft2 (in your .fonts directory or similar) but not available as XFLD (the long horrible -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal ... kind of font names). Check with xlsfonts or xfontsel to see if they show up. If not, you need to put them in a fonts.dir or fonts.scale file somewhere so the X server knows about them and can make them available to pre-Xft programs.
Just one possible avenue of investigation...

Gimp's native text tool isn't that hot. emerge gimp-freetype - it'll show up as a filter, and give you more flexibility with rendering. _________________ Tactless
