I really understand your frustration on this. But please, DO NOT letting nitro die!
Me and others here around are really appreciating your efforts!

I have recently come to rely on your Nitro Sources, they have everything in them I need. Yes there is mild breakage around the edges - but can work around it and the benefits speak volumes for themselves. Successfully using your kernel on over 50 pcs (I work with Linux and maintain many boxes). Your inclusion of L7 has mean't now I have managed to mod Netgear and Belkin routers to include FreeRadius and L7 firewall on old equipment (who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?). The Reiser 4 support has been the most successful for migrating between versions (didn't even notice the transition). I actively encourage all I meet to use Nitro if they need something not in Gentoo-Sources, never found your kernel lacking on ANY level. Not to mention the IO Schedulars, Round Robin and Staircase Schedular options...
I would sorely miss your amazing contribution.
Am about to try SchAmane's -rc5 kernel for completeness (if your strapped for time then maybe letting others add experimental additions for testing - and posting links would be a good idea - patches that work could then be included in your official versions). Although I see your anguish with others using your name - it might be an idea for just experimental/testing stuff - aslong as it is clearly signposted.
There have been no problems with your kernel that cannot be solved yet though, it just takes time and the solutions are the same by the time vanilla/gentoo-sources gets round to including stuff (or their duplicated efforts), so its proof that issues aren't your fault (well maybe xtables but that wasn't a biggie ). _________________ Gentoo's Portage: Any ideas for reform? |

hey tiger!
my usb transfer is painfully slow with that kernel.. Am I missing something new in configuration? My feeling is that I'm runnig on usb-1 as the device is capable of usb-2 (ipod nano).. it's been much faster in the 2.6.15 releases.. |

Will look into that usb issue - there are issues all over the place when running a dev release kernel. If it's the time issue your pissed with - setup a PayPal and send the link back here so next week I can TRY to get the company I work for to contribute. Anything they depend upon that is Free Software/Open Source gets donations - maybe a week or two as I make a case as to why loosing the kernel that does all is a bad thing (the managers tend to not understand anything beyond KDE and Mozilla). _________________ Gentoo's Portage: Any ideas for reform? |

You are not using an official nitro kernel, so keep away with this problem...

Yes, showing not working patchset was my mistake. I am realy sorry for that, i understand what it caused. Next time i would wait untill i make all fixes i can find befor publishing urls.
Actualy i am on rc5-git7 nitro. Let see if i can made it complete for public.
Do you have any interest on team work for nitro? Atleast we can try something on next release, if you wish. |

@SchAmane - Please reconsider before pissing off Tiger anymore - the GPL states very clearly that derived works are permitted but you may have to change the name as to not reflect upon the author. I would suggest opening a new thread and moving discussion there - also changing the name incase Tiger rejects your work. If the patches are worth it then I'd love to try your kernel out and would be greatful - but if you cause the Nitro maintainer to loose his rag and shutdown the project entirely I know who to blame. _________________ Gentoo's Portage: Any ideas for reform? |

You ask for permission to use the name "nitro", you don't get it and then you don't care about it?
Not only that, you then speaking of teamwork?
How old are you? Or shall I ask, how dumb are you?

Putting the "nitro" name on it is what the issue is here - let's see how smart you really are - come up with your own name |

Erm, I don't get it, what's the big deal about the Nitro name?
Tiger's task is already hard as it is, why complicate it further by having him go around problems from some other patchset? |

Good job Tiger.
Everything works excellent with this patch exept ATI's miserable drivers, which is ATI's fault of course (they don't support 2.6.16). Anyway .... I'm looking further to your next release.
Thx. |

WOW... I just got time to read the forums again after being busy for a couple days... I started at the top of this page and read my way through... so halfway down I was about to go and install Windooze.. cause.. what's Linux good for if you don't get a nice fresh Nitro every now and then... Okay.. that would've been quite stupid, but realy, I wouldn't want to go without Nitro anymore..
I'm realy happy that you decided against letting Nitro die, and if there is anything I can help you with (ie testing, make coffee, whatever), let me know..
greets

I think -Nitro patchset should change it licence.
As it use non GPL licenced FB-Logo images it cant be claimed as GPL it self. |

You can say any strong words you will, there is no ground to write about GPL in your ebuilds.
Choice is to share all, or to share nothing. |

Hey Shamane..
Posting things against nitro in the thread for nitro is not really clever i think.
Tiger said clearly enough that you arent behaving the way you should.
You may read his post simplified as a "shut up now". It doesnt look like you understood it. If you like to help the linux community, then do it. Otherwise go and play with someone who is as cool as you are. |

Nobody cares....
Seriously, you're not impressing anyone. Just leave Tiger to keep doing the good job he has been - you're not enriching the community in any way by making a fuss about this. _________________ What are you, stupid? |
