they have listed gnome-2.14 now. masked though.

Should be masked :P for a while at least.

Wasn't someone saying it'd be unmasked by tomorrow? (end of the week?)

Yuhuuu!!!! :D

Now, how can I unmask every package needed by GNOME 2.14?!? Should I do it manually (first unmask the meta-package, then the others one by one) or there's a faster method?

Thank you Gentoo guys! 8)

I guess I'm going to wait a little bit more... maybe when it hits testing.

It's not difficult but the line "unmasking this packages may break your system" sounds bad to me! :?

I always keep a separate gentoo for breakage :P
But I'll try 2.14 tomorrow,

Actually I already emerged gnome-terminal-2.14, couse I head its should be super fast.
And it works just fine, and actually, the speed perfomance in starting is visible, there is also some font rendering from which gnome terminal should benefit but for that i need to fully emerge gnome 2.14,
I'll keep u guys posted once i install it ( if I succed) :D

Does somebody know, what about metacity compositor?
According to metacity-2.14.1.ebuild it is permanently off:
Code:
pkg_setup() {
# Compositor is too unreliable
G2CONF="$(use_enable xinerama) --disable-compositor"
}

But as far as I know, it could be easily disabled (and is disabled by default) via gconf. Maybe it is time to add a USE flag for compositor?

How do you enable XGL, do you need xorg-7.0 for it? Do the ati-drivers work with XGL?

Someone have post a way to modify the ebuild to enable compistor with USE. But you can also modify the ebuild : raplce --disable-compositor by --enable-compositor. But you should have libXcomposite et libXdamage installed.

I try to enable-compositor but the compilation of metacity failed so.. (an i'm under xgl + compiz so..)

Is gnome-terminal any faster? In gnome-2.12 when I run vim in gnome-terminal maximized, and I scroll in vim in such a way that the whole page is moving on every line (basically scroll down at the bottom or up at the top) X starts taking up 100% cpu. Konsole and Xterm do not have this issue with vim with the same font.

I just emerged gnome 2.14 and everything compiles and runs except nautilus. I have gcc-3.4.5. Does anybody have the same problem as I have? This is the last few lines of the error message that I get:

I've emerged nautilus - and almost everything in the gnome metapackage (I left out a few things that I don't like and evince because I couldn't compile poppler).
That's all great but none of it is working. It might have something to do with my gcc - I'm using gcc-4.1 and maybe a couple too many cflags. Everything that's built on glib is exiting with a segfault :(
[edit, that glib did say glibc....my gentoo isn't quite that broken]

It'd be no fun if everything "just worked". But my other gentoo partition is also built with gcc-4.1 and gnome 2.12 works fine there. I'll see how I go rebuilding everything 2.14 again with the same cflags as I used for 2.12. I'll report back in several hours.

GNOME 2.12 has been in testing for 1.5 months! Maybe that version (and 2.14 too) needed some patched to work on gentoo...

If you've amd64 add "-mono" to "/etc/portage/profile/use.mask"

Thanks, that did it. But why is it masked for this arch in this additional way ?!

I had the same problem. I emerged mozilla-firefox-1.5.0.1-r3 and then re-emerged yelp, it worked. (AMD64 platform, but it may work for you if you're on another arch).

I have no idea why it is masked. I guess that there's some problem with mono in this arch but I didn't find it.

(Sorry for my english)
