Hi,
I just upgraded my kernel from 2.6.5-gentoo-r1 to 2.6.15-gentoo-r1.
I used KC10 ("Reusing config when upgrading", https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=35323) for using my settings from my old kernel config file. I followed every step.
Everything seemed to have worked fine, but when I booted the new kernel, I got a message that the kernel has no DEVFS support, which is needed by Gentoo.
I had support for DEVFS in the old config, so why hasn't it been put in the new config by "make oldconfig" ??
When I look in the old config file I see in the Pseudo filesystems section:
CONFIG_DEVFS_FS=y
CONFIG_DEVFS_MOUNT=y
In the new config file I cannot find these lines. And with "make menuconfig" I cannot find the DEVFS settings either in the 2.6.15 kernel.
Does anyone know what happened to this setting, and what should I do to fix?

Devfs has been deprecated for some time, and now is no longer in the official kernel; just emerge udev and follow this guide
