so i've got the lastest libnjb and gnomad2 working with my dell dj, but am only able to open the device in gnomad as root. lsusb shows the device on the bus when run with user priv, but gnomad reports it cannot find a player on the bus.
i've searched and found a few references to permissions issues with usb devices, but haven't seen exactly what i need to do to fix the problem.
anyone willing to provide a link or instructions?
thanks. |

I was having the same issue too but wasn't sure if it was because I just switched to amd64 or not since I had it working on the old system....
so first I tried going to the latest and greatest in portage using the and then this morning after doing some research on USB and permissions i rememberd the hotplug and coldplug packages. After emerging those I was able to get gnomad working again?
Maybe it might work for you....
Let us know if it does in case someone else has the same prob |

hotplug and coldplug are both up and running.
the problem isn't that i cannot use the mp3 player via usb, it's that only root can use the player. gnomad2 reports that no players are on the bus when run as a user. there must be a permissions issue somewhere that i am missing -- and i've hit a few how-tos to no avail. |

I was having that exact same problem...but now I am not.
What version of libnjb and gnomad are you using? I am using the latest available in portage |

I'm away from the offending desktop at the moment, so can't post the exact version numbers, but am currently running the latest version of libnjb and gnomad. at least this was true when last i synced - maybe 1.5 - 2 weeks ago.
i haven't found any mention of groups or other user related issues when reading over the usb documentation. also, it is worth mentioning that my old install from about one year ago would allow my user account to run gnomad and view the dell dj contents without problems, however those versions of libnjb and gnomad were unstable with that player -- i found similar comments from other users in this and other forums.
actually, now that i think about it - the latest versions did not work with my dell dj right out of the box. to get things working, i installed the older versions then updated, while skipping over the gnomad-usb config file in the etc-update. now under root, the file transfers work perfectly while users cannot even view the player on the bus.
i'll take a closer look at that config file and see what i can find. |

Well, I tried going down to the "stable" versions in portage and even removed the coldplug and hotplug packages and rebooted and it still worked...sorta
The one thing that was different was if I had the player plugged in while booting and then tried gnomad2, I would get the error message. But if i unplugged the dell and plugged it back in, then did "rescan" it worked perfectly fine under the user.
It has to be something with the libnjb.
I am sorry to not be of much help. I guess magic must have got mine working. |
