|
|
Hey all, ky this is the problem, the comp I just installed gentoo to is relatively old. Everything works fine except for the sound. When I try to open volume control I get the message no audio device. Anyways here is the info on the sound card as obtained from running Knoppix 3.7 (with Knoppix sound works fine). Knoppix loads the following modules: Code: | Sb
Sb_lib
Sound
Soundcore |
During Initialization I see a message saying: Code: | Creative SB AWE64 PNP. driver=awe_wave |
Since this is not my comp, I am not completely aware about the harddrive, but the last message leads me to believe (obiously) that the sound card is a "Sound Buster 64 (PNP)" with an ISA interface.
Here is what I have done to fix the problem, but to no avail: Code: | Sound Blaster AWE (32,64) PNP | That seems to be the logical support - the name seems to match, is there anything else that i need to activate? When I select help for the option I also see Quote: | !M86K && Sound! = n | is this supposed to be "yes" and if so how do i do that?
Thx in advance,...

Actually this may well help me, so thank you I've not installed Gentoo yet, it's one of my future projects - very near future. I'm not really a newcomer (I hate the newbie term) having played with Linux for around 10 years. I only got Linux working productively last year I have been very happy with SuSE from 9.1 to 10 but I want to learn about optimising for some older PC's I have. Here's where the sound card issue comes in. SuSE is the only distro to have automatically set this card up, even Knoppix does not find it. It's a Creative Soundblaster 32 AWE PnP ISA card. Lovely card and great sound from it. Ok, it's 10 years old but it still works...
Agian, thank you for posting the route to success. |
