When I try to mount a memory card, /dev/sda1, I first have to open /dev/sda in fdisk, print the partition information and exit. Only then can I mount /dev/sda1. Why could this be?
It is a SanDisk, pretty standard USB 1 reader. |

Maybe hotplug/udev isn't picking it up? That would be my guess, but I'm not sure.
