gigabyte laptop W511 install freezes on kernel load

Hi all,


I got a new gigabyte laptop (W511) and I am trying to install linux on it. I am a bit stumped as the minimal cd loads but after selecting a kernel it get to the line "kernel loading..." and then freezes. I have tried both the gentoo and the gentoo-nofb kernels. I have also tried acpi=on as a kernel paramemter to no effect. I also tried the following

1) Knoppix 4.1
2) Ubuntu 5.10

All freeze at some point before the gui loads. I assume its at the kernel load. I cannot even get decent error messages to see what is happening

Any idea how to proceed? I have search the net to no avail.
