Hello,
after my kernel update from 2.6.15 to 2.6.16-r3 I get this error when I will emerge nvidia-glx
but I cant use a newer version as 7676 (my card is a GF mx 420)

when i use 2.6.15 and nvidia-glx 7676-rc3 and nvidia-kernel 7676-rc1 it run great.
but i will use the 2.6.16 kernel version. can anyone help me?

I do not know what is going in Gentoo but the last time I had a lot of problem when I updated the system:
. UDEV problem
. Alsa problem
. and now I had problem with nvdia-kernel and kernel 2.6.16-r3
I think all is very unestable.
I hope someone can help me in this subject

I solved the problem:
I am using Kernel 2.6.16-r3 and the problem is with nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx (both 6629-r7)
then you must follow this step:
# cd /etc/portage
# echo media-video/nvidia-glx ~x86 >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
# echo media-video/nvidia-kernel ~x86 >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
Then you will emerge nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx (both 8756)
next step:
you need to launch your system with kernel 2.6.16-r3 and logging as root
# emerge nvidia-glx
Portage will download and instal both nvidia (kernel and glx)
next step:
# modprobe nvidia
# modules-update
# shutdown -r now (restarting your system
and I hope all is rigth

I have emerged the new nvidia-glx und nvidia-kernel 1.0.8756 and
my computer freeze if i start the X-server, i can not do anything. ping doesn't work. like frozen
i dont know if my card is supported? (GF mx420)

Between kernels 2.6.15 and 2.6.16, there was some kind of API change. NVidia binary drivers 8178 and older will not work on kernels 2.6.16 and up. Not sure if 8756 runs on 2.6.15, haven't bothered to check yet. |

I'm using nvidia-kernel-1.0.7174-r2 with the 2.6.16-gentoo-r3 kernel. It seems to work fine. I had trouble with the newer Nvidia drivers with this kernel. With the newer drivers I lost Xinerama using Twinview. I downgraded the Nvidia drivers and Xinerama started to work again. I've got an Nvidia GeForce2 Go card. |

Soon, the patch was mentioned in the forums, and soon after that it was added to the spell. During the duration, I had to apply the patch to the driver. _________________ [ Kawa-kun, new and improved!! ]

I have emerged nvidia-glx-1.0.8178-r1 and nvidia-kernel 1.0.8178-r3 and
my computer freeze if i start the X-server, i can not do anything. like frozen
i dont know if my card is supported? (GF mx420)

I went to the 2.6.16 kernel a couple of days ago, re-emerged the two nvidias and voila, no problem. |

How do I get the error away?on a others PC with the
same kernel, the version runs also

can any one me help?
when i install ~x86 or any 8xxx glx an kernel
and i start x i dont get any error but my notebook
get a deadlock.
