|
|
Please forgive what may be obvious in this question:
I have just left genkernel as a way to make my kernels and now do it the manual way. WOO HOO, it is so much easier since when I first learned it with RedHat 5.0.
Anyway, now that I am doing it manually, I wonder about just downloading kernels from kernel.org: here is the question finally, what is the difference between getting kernel source from kernel.org and getting it from gentoo? I naturally think getting it from Gentoo means tweaked-peaked-freaked, but I don't want to assume anything.
Thanks

If you emerge vanilla-sources, you get the same kernel as you can download from kernel.org.
If you emerge gentoo-sources, they are patched a bit, search the docs for more info about it. |

Is there a chart that explains what the different kernel sources are in portage?
thanks
Dan
(why can't I just leave it alone? why can't I just accept my system the way it is? why do I believe I am not EVER getting the most out of my system? why can't I just install windows and just accept defaults? Am I sick? Are we all sick? Do I have to much time on my hands?) _________________ DannyBoy |

So for the tweak freak, is the ck-sources the most tuned kernel?
Is there anything different about compiling this kerenl ie: different options when I run gconfig?
