I get this error:
earth root # emerge portage
Calculating dependencies \Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 1259, in ?
if not mydepgraph.create(mytype+" "+portage.root+" "+mykey,None,"--onlydeps" not in myopts):
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 410, in create
edepend=portage.db[myroot]["porttree"].dbapi.aux_get(mykey,portage.auxdbkeys)
File "/usr/lib/python2.2/site-packages/portage.py", line 2565, in aux_get
self.auxcache[mycpv][auxdbkeys[x]]=mylines[x][:-1]
IndexError: list index out of range
Any idea what this error could be?
I've got that for a bunch of packages, including when I do update world...
Thanks,
Fred. |

I'm getting this error too. At first, i got it for gtksee. Then I started noticing it popping up all over the place. Now, after I just recompiled my kernel, I have to unmerge/emerge the nvidia ports to get my X-11 driver working again. I got the error!! No more GUI!
And like Fred, I'm getting the error for 'emerge portage'. So how am I going to get the fix when it's fixed?
I hope more people seeing this problem so it can be fixed ASAP.

The script seems to be corrupted for whatever reason...
So, I tried a way to fix it, I explain you, but don't do all I did cos I didn't succeed.
As my emerge script seems corrupts, I just untar the tarball stage1 on the install CD, as I thought it would reinstall the minimal. I did that in my root directory, and it just replaced all my users and everything.
Not happy Fred!
So, I ended up reinstalling everything from scratch, it didn't take me long as I went through all those steps only, and new exactly where I would need to do my special tricks
After my mistake, the good way to do it would be:
Untar the stage1 tarball in your home directory for instance.
Then, copy the emerge script from there and replace the real one in your root.
At least, this should fix your script.
I haven't had time to test further, but I'm afraid this can come from somewhere else, like for instance, the file which keep track of all your packages.
If this is true, then you're in a mess, and you'd better reinstall everything from scratch.
Just before it happened to me, I was using kportagemaster to clean up multiple versions of my packages.
Did you try kportagemaster?

Bug #4379 has been fixed in 2.0.9. An 'emerge rsync; emerge portage' got me back on track. Thanks to drobbins. (guess it's time for me to make a donation) |
