Think I may have destroyed my system here.
I have been using the ~x86 keyword in my make.conf file now for a long while and decided to switch back to stable. I manage to downgrade a few key packages just fine then unknowingly downgraded glibc - went from 2.4 to 2.3.6 while trying to downgrade a few other programs and didnt notice glibc in the list of packages to be downgraded. After the downgrade was unable to run etc-update or anything for that matter. Seems that the only programs I cannot run are the ones I need to fix the problem.
Any ideas on how to fix this without reloading from scratch?
Some of the errors:
Code:
GenLap glibc # etc-update
mkdir: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by mkdir)
Exiting: failed mkdir command!
rm: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by rm)
I was able to boot up with the livecd copy over some important programs.. mainly cp,mv,mkdir,install,etc.. and then was able to rebuild coreutils, binutils and now I have a somewhat more usable system I can continue to repair.
