does anyone know of a fix for this:
Quote: | I can run my GNOME desktop on Xgl very well, but the cursor all not always works fine,
for example, I choose a cursor theme through the desktop->preference->mouse, but the theme is only
availabe for some cases, for example a text entry widget, firefox browser window, and when I moved
cursor to the window border or panel, it changed to the orignal X cursor which is the black one. |

With gconf-editor I see:
apps -> compiz -> general -> allscreens -> options ->
active plugin=gconf,decoration,woobly,fade,minimize,cube,rotate,zoom,scale,move,resize,place,switcher
But in "apps -> compiz -> plugins" the only folder is "fade". |
I have the same issue since I got XGL and compiz running. My install is about 3 weeks old quinnstorm from the testing branch. Sorry, but I'm not sure how to check which revision it is.
I haven't really tried to resolve it, although I'm sure an upgrade to more current code would likely fix it. As it is, I'm happy with the functionality I have and would rather not risk killing compiz. It took me two weeks to get it running last time.. |

I should have edited out the part about key binding not working... I was referring to plugin options not listed in gconf-editor. Some of the key bindings seem to come and go when they feel like it however. But I only turn on the ripple effect or rain when I'm trying to show off to friends. Hence it really hasn't been an issue for me.
And as I mentioned earlier, I'm too afraid to update compiz because it took so long to get it working to begin with. There are little quirks, but nothing I can't tolerate for the time being. Once I get a free weekend, I'll upgrade; just too busy right now. |

When you install a new compiz-version you have to:
Code: | gconftool-2 --install-schema-file /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz.schemas |
I hope that solves your problems with not seeing some configs |

wow, i just noticed the speed improvements of the newer cvs sources (xgl-testing here). minimizing/deminimizing from the kicker now is veeeeerrry smooth. few revisions before it was stuttering and lagging like if it had to take a screenshot first *lol*
also the problems with not being able to use kmails add account-dialog, noatun or the kickers clocks colors dialog are simply gone away... very nice one so now its almost perfect from my point of view, hehe. just one "little" thing is still there... running Xgl I cannot set powerplay powerstates for my ati radeon x600 pcie it tells me it couldnt obtain powerplay information, though it works perfectly with the "normal" x.org... |

Run: svn info and give the output.. I am thinking you are using the trunk, unless someone did something and updated the testing branch to what the trunk has which they shouldn't have as we want to phase out testing... |

Ok, I got a quick question. Does anyone use The Gimp? When I use it in Xgl it works fine. But when I try to close it it just freezes. No biggie I guess because in a few seconds after I try to close it I will get a popup window telling me that it's not responding then I can kill it that way. |

Yes, and I have no such problem. I'm running the 2.3.8 development release from Break My Gentoo on ~amd64. |

I had Xgl(+compiz+kde) working very well for a while, then i updated it,
and now i can't start compiz, it just says:
Code: | Error while loading shared libraries: libGL.so.1: cannot handle TLS data |
I typed that error message from memory, so it might not be 100% correct.
Any help is appreciated.
My system:
CPU: AMD Sempron 2800+ (32-bit)
GPU: Club3D Nvidia Geforce FX 5200
RAM: 512M
MB: Asus K8S-MX
HDD: 80GB Maxtor (It hasn't failed ) |

Hi
I'v been running Xgl and Compiz on my box for some time now, I use KDE and until recently its been great.
But recently (after some updates) I've had some serious slowdowns and things aren't running to well.
Any ideas??
thanks _________________ Admiral Trigger Happy

Which compiz (vanilla or quinnstorm) are most people running? If I am using primarily gnome on the machine is it best to go with quinnstorm? _________________ Intel Core2Quad Q9400

While it works with KDE, compiz was developed under Gnome and has fewer problems in that environment. vanilla and quinnstorm are the same in this regard.
quinnstorm has more people developing new plugins and new features, but sometimes at the cost of stability. I use quinnstorm and have one of its more interesting plugins, dock, inactive because it either crashes compiz or spikes CPU usage. vanillia is what ships as part of Novell SuSE Linux 10.1 and the fact that it's part of a major supported distro means the original developers are very careful about stability issues. So faster development of new features vs. greater stability is the choice here.
Me, I run quinnstorm because I want all the latest toys. |

the cause for the slow resize problem isnt yet found, afaik. it occurs here too.
cwall64: i am running vanilla, but also tested quinnstorm a few times. they are both almost the same, the only thing i noticed was that quinnstorm has bit different default gconf settings (which i dont like). but both ran very stable... only the dock plugin wasnt usable. with both. |

maybe you have to also update mesa and so on? every few svn updates one has also to update the affected libraries... had this several times. i just dont know any more if i got exactly this error. |
