Has anyone gotten Opera to compile? I have tried to emerge it and install it by downloading the source. It says it cannot recognize the os. Any ideas? Can it not be compiled for the PPC?
If not what is your browser of choice? |

Opera is not open source, it's not distributed as source code but as binaries.
They offer versions for PPC-OSX and ix86-linux, but not PPC-linux
I would imagin that 'emerge opera' just download and installs the binaries.

my browser of chose is (curently) Galeon.
(or links when I'm using that text-console I shouldn't need when I have X working (is there no tongue-in-cheek emoticon ?) )

Opera doesn't work on ppc currently (and not likely in near future).
It should be masked right now, you should run emerge rsync

I'll be playing with an Opera 5 ebuild for the PPC in the next couple days and will let you know when its ready for testing.

Unfortantly, I got the ebuild done and well, Opera is really old...and an old glibc is required. I'll be bugging the Opera folks to get their act together and release Opera 6.
