I am part way through installing Gentoo Linux on a PII 333Mhz machine, which is not connected to the internet. I have another PC running Win XP which has a dialup internet connection. I have got as far as getting the latest packages. Each time I do this I find it needs another file that I need to download. What I was wondering, is there a way to find out all the files required before trying to install them? I seem to get so far and find out it needs another file, download it then start again, which doesn't seem to be the most efficient way of doing it!!!
I know that emerge-up world lists the packages, but it doesn't list the required files.
Also I have a live CD for the install. Every time I boot the PC, it seems that all the files I have extracted have been deleted. Is there any way to leave it the way it was without undoing all the hard work I have done???? _________________ Never loose faith in the colour of the sky |

If both of your machines have NIC's you could use Internet Connection Sharing on your Windows machine. This would allow the Gentoo machine to transparently download through your dialup connection. |
