CooSee, please: rm /usr/portage/distfiles/*emission*; emerge emission-sources

Also please remove the percent line because it's making the page real wide.

hallo,

sorry for the big line 8O

don't work :roll:

emerge -va emission-sources

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild NS ] sys-kernel/emission-sources-2.6.17-r1 USE="staircase symlink -build -doc -no-lockless" 1,306 kB [2]

Total size of downloads: 1,306 kB
Portage overlays:
[1] /usr/local/portage
[2] /usr/local/overlays/emission
[3] /usr/local/overlays/xgl-coffee

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No] y

If you got the ebuild via evmgr, please do not post here. Please post on our forums. This thread is for the kernel and ebuild, not part of the E-Mission overlay.

I wouldn't normally brag guys, but the interactivity with this release is amazing.

Using:

USE="staircase"

Block Layer > IO Schedulers > CFQ
Processor Types and Features > 32 bit Memory and IO resources
Processor Types and Features > Use register arguments
Processor Types and Features > Preemption Model (Preemptible Kernel (Low-Latency Desktop))
Device Drivers > Block devices > Boot frontend cache driver
Security options >
* Enable different security models
M Default Linux Capabilities
M Realtime Capabilities

Try compiling without suspend or suspend2 support. I see the problem, but I'll need vipernicus' help.

Ok only thing I don't like is that it doesn't come with the default config, I mean when I'm going to compile my kernel (gentoo-sources or ck-sources) it opens with a default vanilla kernel config with just the default options selected, in emmision-sources there are some other options selected and some default not selected. Why I complian about this cause I normally make menuconfig and select fast what I need and deselect the little things I don't, the emission way I have to go trhough reading a lot of stuff. And I don't like to use make oldconfig either. So is there a way for when I use make menucinfig to have the default vanilla options selected?

I don't understand, when you do a 'make menuconfig' it should pull an older config that you had been using with a previous kernel build. There are many new options though, and if you didn't have any config set up for that, then it will automatically select or deselect them. If you had any problems, you could always cd into your old kernel, 'cp .config ../linux-2.6.17-emission1/'

If you don't want this problem to happen again:
In options:
General setup >
* Kernel .config support
* enable access to .config through /proc/config.gz

If you didn't have then selected before, you won't get that default config. You must have, in your last kernel compile, forgotten to check this off.

Hi, my "relatory" of sucesses and failures:

Everything here compiled nicely and runs wihout any apparent problem.
I go with Staircase. I used make oldconfig using emission4 to get the same options i use there and have accept all default proposition for features.

No problem neither with nvidia driver nor fbsplash/vesafb (didn't try vesafb-tng...)

Suspend2 seemed to go ok too, but didn't work.
It always stop at 2/3 of the last step with the frozen message:
"Doing atomic copy..." It freeze with both suspend2ui_fbsplash and suspend2ui_text.

I tried turn off some things that other older kernels sometimes had errors, but suspend2 continued to freeze.
1st i turned off 'Support for prefetching swapped memory' then off with 'CFQ I/O scheduler' (i use Deadline as the default scheduler) that once give me problems, but problem didn't go away.
I realize by then that 'Support processor vendors' have all selected. Don't know if this is important so it turn all off leaving only 'Support Intel processors' enabled (P4 here), but that haven't no effect on suspend2 frooze.

hope that have any use in debug/improve this kernell. Looks promissing.

Your kernel compiles fine and boots too, but...
I can't compile modules with this kernel. The source directory is deleted when i do make in it. All files are deleted. This is with source for ltmodem,r8180 wireless card and ndiswrapper.

Code:
toshiba rtl8180-0.22_pre20050528 # make
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.17-emission1/build SUBDIRS=/usr/src/rtl8180-0.22_pre20050528 MODVERDIR=/usr/src/rtl8180-0.22_pre20050528 modules

Yes it does, it is the default 2.6.17 config, it changed since 2.6.16. If you want the default 2.6.16 config (I would not reccomend this ) swap out arch/i386/defconfig, or arch/i386/kernel/defconfig (one of those directories)
