Hello all, hope u can help me with this

I moved around my disks alot one day, and then it happened. I did a mkfs.ext3 on the wrong disk, now im hoping someone knows how to recover data from that disk

plz help

The disk was format with either ext2 or 3 before
The disk as never been mounted other than read-only after i formated it

If you want to format a partition with ext3, you have to use mke2fs -j <partition>.

If you have formatted the partition this way, the data on this partition is lost.

when formatting, afaik only the filesystem is created, journal initialised etc, the data itself is still there
(just like i can perfectly delete a filesystem and make a new, if i just want to make it bigger)

so i think all your data is still there

if it's not, look for data recovery software for ext filesystems

the data is gone when i mount the harddrive,
and i have been looking for tools to recover the data but havnt had any luck yet, so if anyone out there
know of a way to do this i would be very happy

Might be true, haven't tested myself.
I'd suggest forensic software (and lots of time) might be in order. Maybe try starting with something like foremost to see if the data actually doesstill exist.

edit:

foremost is finding data on the drive but im have trouble finding out how to retrive it
