The kernel is set to boot in quiet mode because i don't really need to see what's happening each time i boot. But i get one single warning, and i've tried recompiling the kernel a million times to remove it without luck.
So what does Ata2: disabling port mean and how do i get rid of the warning? |

Post your dmesg output.
Probably just means that some device channel isn't being used, so its disabled. (nothing to worry about) |

I get that all the time on my laptop! It only happens when I dont have DVDRW installed. All its saying that the secondary IDE channel is being turned off because nothing is attached to it.
Nothing to worry about.
Now what would be cool is if I could make it turn back on! _________________ Dont make it idiot proof, make it work.

well i know it's nothing to worry about now, but my question is really: how do i remove the warning!? could i edit the kernel source-code and simply remove the warning from there? |

Yes, but why bother.
If you are trying to clean up dmesg, so it just shows the hardware you are using, maybe there are better tools to use to interrogate the hardware rather than resorting to editing the source. (But to each his own.) |
