Anyone here who uses evolution connected to a MS Exchange server? I saw that Ximian had a connector, but not for gentoo. I wonder if some of the binaries could be used on gentoo. If so, please let med know. |

Anyone got a solution for connecting evolution to ms exchange server?
I have check out ximians connector but they want 69 USD for it! I can afford about ZAR 300 which comes to 36 USD at current exchange rates
Also I need the connection while I am on assignment at a client for the next three months |

Without the connector, you cannot connect as an Exchange client. However, if the Exchange administrator has enabled Exchange to provide POP3 or IMAP services, you can connect that way and at least get your emails (if not calendar, etc.).
If you truly need it at a client site, given the cost of Exchange and/or Outlook, I don't see what Ximian is charging as oppressive. |

I agree with you about the cost if I were to use the connector permanently. However I use an isp account for my business, it just that on this short-term project the client has set up an account for me on their exchange server and this emans I will need to pay close to R550 for just using the connector for three months
I may still get it anyway.
Thanks |

The connector is available in portage. as root merge it with Code: | ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~x86" emerge ximian-connector |
Change the x86 with ppc for power.....

Ok I have purchased the ximain-connector and installed it. The ebuild is only up to connector-1.2.2 while the latest one is 1.2.4. Thus it will not install with the current ebuild script. For those of you who need to install it here is what I did.
1) Created a /usr/local/portage/net-mail/ximian-connector directory
2) Copied the ebuild for 1.2.2_p2 from the /usr/portage/net-mail/ximian-connector directory over to the above direcotory.
3) I renamed the above file (ximian-connector-1.2.2_p1.ebuild) to ximain-connector-1.2.4_p0.ebuild
4)edited the /etc/make.conf to set the portage overlay directory. If you used the above directory structure in 1) then yo can just uncomment the line in make.conf
5) Then do a ebuild /usr/local/portage/net-mail/ximian-connector/ximian-connector-1.2.4_p0.ebuild digest
6) Copy the downloaded ximian connector to the /usr/portage/distfiles directory.
7) Did an emerge net-mail/ximian-connector
9) Copy key text from e-mail from ximian store to ~/evolution
10) Start evolution.
Hope this helps someone |
