Hey, my Xorg stopped working after an unsuccessful update from 6.8 to 7.0 and back to 6.8 again.
The logfile reports that Xorg is unable to load glx and fglrx modules because it cant find them (no such file or directory). Allready re-emerged xorg-x11 and ati-drivers but no success... :(

Is there somthing changed that I didn't notice until after remerge?

Bachus,

Going back to 6.8 is a backwards step. To get Xorg to start, so you can use it, comment out the Load glx option and change the driver
"fglrx" to driver "vesa"

Xorg 6.8 and 7.0 put some things in different places, so you may well have a xorg.conf for xorg 7.0 but a Xorg 6.8 install.
The right approach is to install Xorg 7.0 (or even 7.1 now the ATI driver is out) and make it work. Modular Xorg is not going to go away.

Thanks for the reply Neddy, but I've deceided to stick with Xorg 6.8 for a little while longer. Its just too big a fuzz this moment to get it all working smoothly again like it did, so I'm going to wait until things become clear again. I know this is a bit of a cowardly approch, but I simply don't have the time to figure things out myself right now.

Regards,

Bachus,

Your MoulePath statements in xorg.conf will be missing or incorrect for Xorg 6.8
Find out where your 'missing' Xorg modules are located and add in the ModulePath statements so that Xorg finds them
