you exit nano by pressing ctrl + x (you will be prompted for save, answer with y or n) _________________ From Gentoo with love |

yeah 10 Gb is enough.
When you have chrooted do ./usr/portage/scripts/bootstrip.sh -f
Do you know about auto completion of names? press tab when you are writing your names of commandos/files/folders/scripts or any other file you have in your directory and your shell will complete it if it is unique.
For example if you have a folder containing the file ThisIsMyTextFile and want to edit it with nano do this
nano Thi<tab>
and that would autocomplete the filename. If several file with the same begining exist press tabb twice to list them and then continue typing to select the file you want (you can still continue hitting tab to auto complete) _________________ From Gentoo with love |

did you downloaded the tarball necessary for the bootstrap?
(it's one of the previous steps on the handbook) _________________

is it the correct filename on your portage snapshot? read my previous post in this topic on how auto completion works, saves you from alot of these no file found error.
*edit
Also where did you download the file with links? the file will be saved to the directory from witch you start links. _________________ From Gentoo with love |

Are you sure you have the right guide? Please post the exact link to it.
At present stage1 or stage2 installs are not suppoted anymore and you seem to be doing a stage1 install. How about doing a supported stage3 install? |

That is a wise thing to do. Never ever trust that an old guide is valid, always double check. (And also double check whether you do a normal installation or a networkless installation as they use different guides...) |
