Why Can't I have a pipe in my e-mail address for my profile?

Is this a restriction that's been placed on the forums, or a limitation of phpBB?

That charater just doesn't belong into email addresses!

I've devised a method to reduce spam with my hosting provider, so have created all different accounts for every subscription (i.e. site), so if one account gets spammed, I can just drop it and change the address..

It was purely just the alphabetical order in which I chose pipes because it doesn't look messy and is down the end of the list, i.e. |forums.gentoo.org@domain.com.au would be one of the addresses.. I don't really want to see them when I'm managing other addresses so needed it to be down the bottom and Zgentoo@ or Zforums@ just looks untidy.

I think the pipe symbol is an allowed character following the RFCs, but it's recommended not to use it - see http://www.remote.org/jochen/mail/info/chars.html

Cool, that's handy to know! I might use an underscore "_" instead of a pipe then as it achieves the same ordering result! Thanks for your help!
