|
|
I want to build 3-4 vmware images, then network them together to simulate a small network.
Vmware #1: Firewall with 3 NIC (max that workstation vmware supports)
Vmware #2: NAS with 1-2 NIC
Vmware #3: Server with 1 NIC
Vmware #4: Maybe a desktop computer/workstation, or this could be replaced by the main desktop aka the actual machine.
So how would I do this? I've already set up the vmware images and they're ready to be installed to and so forth, but I'm just stuck on how to setup the network and link each of these machines together into a network. |

Use bridged networking on each one - they will then each have unique MAC addresses on your LAN. Just give each the relevant IPs and you're off.
This will run them in the same net space as the rest of your LAN though, so it's assuming you don't mind that.
It seems like you want one of them to act as the firewall, which implies you want it to hold the internet connection. That's totally possible, but depends on how you get your net. ie. if it's a USB ADSL modem, you could connect it directly to the virtual machine's USB port, but if it's an ethernet modem, I don't know how you'll connect it only to the firewall VM. |

I'm mainly doing this for simulation, I'll replace the VMware images with an actual phystical device once i got the money/time to build them, but first i want to get the software together so i can have better idea of what i can and cannot do... |
