|
|
Hi all.
I have a Problem here with hotplugging of sataII disks... kernel doesn't seem to recognize if i plug or unplug them.
hotplug is installed but if i unplug one of my sata disks /proc/partitions still shows it.
Besides this is an nforce4 chipset.
Best Regards |

nkalle,
The SATA specification provides for hardware to support hot plugging, so you won't damage your hardware.
As far as I know, there is no kernel support for it yet.
The hotplug option in the kernel is for USB and Firewire devices.
There is also PCI Hotpug support, that can be used by top end servers that have hot pluggable PCI cards. _________________ Regards,

Tejun Heo announced initial kernel support for this ( and other) feature last weekend for some chips.

Thanks for your answers, I will try this patch.
Somehow I was pretty sure that there already was support for hotplugging sata-drives...
Well I'm confused sometimes.

I nearly forgot...
this Patch works fine!
Except sometimes when you reattach the Drive it's recognized as another which is not so bad but bad if you want to use it with softwareraid.
However this will be solved somehow. |
