I installed Gnome today (because I felt like it). After doing this, I downloaded the source for multi-gnome-terminal (since the package for it can't be installed on AMD64) and it told me that gnome-config wasn't installed, and it was going to stop running. I found this odd, and checked which packages that had "gnome" in the name weren't installed. I saw that gnome-core wasn't installed, and checked to see why. It turns out that there is no way to install gnome-core on AMD64. Isn't this an important package, and why doesn't someone do something to make it supported? |

Why not? It's keyworded ~amd64... _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

True, it is.
The main question still applies: why not gnome-core? |

Maybe because it's like 4 years old. That was before AMD64 became available, so it's never been updated to work with the new architecture. Everybody else uses gnome 2 instead. _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln
