|

Hi, i got a desktop with RT2561/RT61 Ralink card and a notebook. When I use windows on the desktop, the ad-hoc wlan can be set, everything is ok. Under linux the best I got - continuously dying 54Mb network, while signal was 99%. Used last driver from serialmonkey, the one from ralinktech.com didn't work at all. I also had 11Mb connection that -maybe- doesn't dye, but who cares about 11Mb when all hosts can do 54? Any help appreciated. |

Actually, I'm not sure that 11Mb was OK. Haven't tested it really, 'cause 11Mb for lan is too slow. Moreover, if with windows 54mb is possible, than it should be possible with linux also... |

Windows drivers are notorious for not following specifications - see everyone has a "turbo" mode.
It's like this - the specification requires a ball (11 mb) to go in the hole (11 mb), but windows is trying to force a brick (54 mb) into the hole. It may work, but it's not good.
As to 11mb being too slow - LOL is all I say.
11 is fine for 3 users streaming video as that's what I do at home.
It's also faster than 99% of available ADSL lines. _________________ Use dhcpcd for all your automated network configuration needs
