how much is to much? programs can never come up to quick but when is that extra speed never used?
if i wanted a box to do some serious compiling regulary and quickly what should i get? i was looking into dual xeons but with some of the specs im wondering if it makes a differnce. and im keeping smp either way!!!
i know there are benchmarks, but id like to know why. |

i'd go with something dual AMD, just because it's cheap and it's damn fast. Plus remember that smp will keep your machine fairly usable while compiling, while single cpu machines tend to slow down visibly when you compile something in the background, which is reasonable, but with smp the case is that one process can be shifter from two cpus just to one cpu, thus keeping the other cpu free for whatever your other needs are. If you are interested in smp more, go to www.2cpu.com It's a bunch of great smp guys over there and they are always willing to help and talk to you in favor of smp _________________ >>>>> Ignorance is bliss <<<<< |
